Joshua P. Feickert

Died August 31, 2020

SUTTONS BAY – Joshua Paul Feickert, 31, of Suttons Bay, passed away August 31, 2020 in Traverse City. Joshua was born July 23, 1989 in Chesapeake, Virginia, the son of Paul and Jennifer (Heldt) Feickert.

Joshua grew up in a Coast Guard family and lived in Grandy, North Carolina; St. Ignace, Michigan; Tuscarawas and Madison, Ohio; Port Hope, Michigan; and Suttons Bay. At each of these communities Joshua became an integral part of the town. In his youth he joined the Boy Scouts and would visit his dad at the station. There he learned to properly retire and fold the flag for the night. His patriotism was inherent as well as his urge to help others without fanfare.

He graduated Suttons Bay High School with the Class of 2007. He was a member of the 2007 Norsemen Football team that did not allow a single conference opponent to score and went deep into the playoffs; he also played basketball and golf; loved baseball and he played everywhere he lived. He was a valued member of the SB and American Legion teams. In one of his first Varsity starts, he pitched a no-hitter.

In school he was a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters and a member of People to People Student Ambassadors Program. With People to People Joshua was selected to tour Europe seeing such countries as Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and France. Joshua represented Suttons Bay and our nation on these trips.

After high school Joshua attended Trine University in Indiana. He then earned an associate degree from NMC and later his bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University.

Joshua quietly helped folks in need with no attention or publicity wanted. Whether paying for a stranger’s meal, a cup of coffee, buying a meal for a mother with kids and a deployed husband ~ Josh would do the right thing and help.

He had the outdoors in his blood; Josh loved fishing, hiking, shooting, camping, and working outdoors. As a youth he learned bee keeping from Julius Kolarik. Joshua also learned to work in the area vineyards, making cheese from Leelanau Cheese and most recently became heavy equipment certified while working in fruit processing. He never shied away from work if it was not in a suit and tie and in an office. Joshua also spent many years as a cook in a local restaurant where he met and made many friends in his community.

Joshua is survived by his parents, Paul and Jennifer; a grandmother, Kathryn Heldt; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Olivia Pearl Feickert; his maternal grandfather, Clarence Heldt; his paternal grandparents, Rev. William Feickert and Dorothy Feickert.
