BAY – Kenneth Michael Brooks, 54, of Suttons Bay, passed away on Thursday, Dec.
26, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure.
Ken was born on Oct. 31, 1959 in Midland, the
son of Joseph H. and Gretta (Burke) Brooks.Ken’s grandfather, William Burke Sr., fought in WWI, which sparked Ken’s interest in history. In addition to being a history buff, Ken was passionate about watching Sunday NASCAR with his family. During his high school years, Ken and a cousin hiked the 3rd tallest mountain in Colorado. While living in Midland, Ken and his brother, Joe, owned a painting company. In 1990 he moved to Suttons Bay where he worked for WC Maintenance and later helped his other brother, Jim, with his restaurant, Crossroads Grill, where he worked for a number of years.
Ken is survived by his mother, Gretta Brooks; sisters, Micki Brooks, Becky (Edward Wright) Blackhurst, Susan (Gene Campbell) Brooks; brother, James Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his father,
Joseph H. Brooks; brother, Joseph L. Brooks; nephew, Bryan Olsen; and faithful
dog, Baxter.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, Dec.
29 at 2 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay with a visitation
held one hour prior. Cousin Anne
(Campbell) Drake will officiate. Burial
will take place in the spring at Suttons Bay Township Cemetery.
