PESHAWBESTOWN – Ruby Matilda Thomas, 88, of Peshawbestown, passed away on Wednesday, July 24 at Tendercare Birchwood in Traverse City.
  Ruby was born on April 28, 1925 in Peshawbestown, the daughter of Howard and Grace (Peshaba) Davis.  On February 14, 1946 she married Russell R. Thomas who preceded her in death in 2004.
  First and foremost Ruby was a loving mother and wife.  She worked most of her life in North Carolina, living there from 1953 to 2002.  Ruby found time to tend to her large and beautiful flower garden.  She loved her family and heritage and always made time to spend summers in Michigan.  Ruby and Russell moved back to Michigan permanently in 2002.  Ruby was a fantastic baker, once owning her own bakery.  Everyone who had the pleasure of enjoying her baking skills will never forget the great love and care she put into each and every one.
  A loyal and dedicated American, Ruby served her country faithfully in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
  Ruby is survived by her children, Gail (Rusty Pyawasy) Diaz, Galen William “Billy” (Patti) Thomas; step-sister, Karen (Wally) Wallietz; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
  In addition to her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by two sons, Don and Bobby Thomas; and great grandson, Markus Tarlton.
  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, at 11 a.m. at Kateri Tekakwitha Church in Peshawbestown with a visitation held one hour prior.  Burial will follow at Kateri Tekakwitha Cemetery.
