GLEN ARBOR – Harry Ellsworth Garthe, 91, of Glen Arbor, passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Yorkshire Manor Assisted Living.
  Harry was born on Aug. 17, 1922 in Northport, the son of Esten and Gunhild (Einerson) Garthe.  On Dec. 14, 1944 in Leland, he married Fern L. Grosvenor who preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1965.  On Nov. 19, 1966, also in Leland, he married Betty B. Shmidt Prause who preceded him in death on Feb. 29, 2012.
  Harry graduated from Northport Consolidated High School in 1941.  At the age of 20, Harry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and became Technical Sergeant, flying on 52 missions over France and Germany.  He later worked a Parsons Corp., Cone Drive Gear and later as a carpenter.
  Harry is survived by his children, Sally S. (Jeff) Butwell, Kathleen A. Ludwig, Christine “Kiki” L. (Scott) Anderson, Peter J. (Donna) Garthe, and Margaret “Peggy” J. Garthe; step-children, Eugene, William (Kathie), Gerald (Sandra) and Charles Prause; grandchildren, Mark Butwell, Kathryn Goodman, Kristin Romel, Edward Ludwig, Jeremy Anderson, Melissa Steinhauer, Todd Garthe, and Jennifer Williams; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
  In addition to his wives, Harry was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Carlson, Esther Guptill, Steiner Garthe, Bernice Peters, Norvold, Inga, and Randolph Garthe.
  A memorial service will be held on May 17 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor.  Burial will be at Beechwood Cemetery in Leland.
