NORTHPORT - Harvey (Harv) Edward Thomas, 93, of Northport, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at Northport Highlands.
Harv was born in Hinsdale, IL, the son of the late Roy Kehl and Pauline Grafton Thomas.
Harv grew up in Hinsdale, IL. He was an honored athlete in football, basketball and track at Hinsdale H.S. He attended the Univ. of Illinois and Univ. of Michigan before enlisting in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He later became an insurance agent in Chicago before relocating to Northport 30 years ago. Harv was known for his quick wit, an infectious laugh, and a caring and generous heart for the less fortunate.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy K. and Theodore E. Thomas; two daughters, Rachel Thomas Guzior and Louise Leuthner; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William G. and Phillip S. Thomas.
Harv was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Thomas Fabin; brothers, Roy K. Jr. and Grafton M. Thomas; and sisters, Martha Woodhouse and Barbara Broberg.
Private family services have been held.
We would like to express our condolences to the Thomas Family. Harvey lived with my Father in Law, Bud Deering for awhile, so we had the pleasure of gettng to know him. Harvey was a good person, always willing to help others. Erik and my Son Rick are best freinds, and Erik is a lot like his Grandfather, always willing to help others too. The resemblance of Erik and Harvey is amazing also, both handsome guys. Harvey will truly be missed by all. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
