Theresa B. Mikowski
Died March 9, 2015
KASSON TOWNSHIP – Theresa Bernadette Mikowski, 89, of Cedar passed away on Monday,
March 9, 2015 at Maple Valley Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
Theresa was born April 18, 1925 in Cedar the
daughter of Walter and Salomea (Peplinski) Popa. On June 28, 1947 at the Holy Rosary Church of
Isadore, she married her loving husband of thirty eight years, Leonard George
Mikowski, who preceded her in death on June 12, 1986.
Theresa was the bedrock of strength and love for her family. She was a co-owner of Mikowski’s IGA in Cedar. Theresa was a lady of deep faith, praying the Rosary every night. The family fondly remembers Sunday breakfast, gatherings at the home and playing cards on the front porch. She was an excellent cook and always had a wonderful smile.
She put herself second to the needs of her family and especially her daughter, Lori. Theresa was dedicated to Lori; her round the clock care of her daughter accomplished miracles. With Theresa's assistance Lori was able to overcome many physical and mental disabilities. She wouldn’t let her daughter be treated differently from other children.
Theresa is survived by her children, Joanne
(Scott) Flaska, David (Carol) Mikowski, Donald (Patti) Mikowski, Dwayne
Mikowski, Roger (Shelly) Mikowski; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Mikowski; a
sister, Sally Thoreson; a sister-in-law,
Bernice Winowiecki; twenty four grandchildren and thirty four great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Leonard, a son, Daniel, a daughter, Lori; and her siblings, Matilda, Martha,
Jessie, Helen, Betty, Suzie, Maryann, Anthony, John, Stanley,
Teddy and Walter Jr.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on
Friday, March 13 at the Holy Rosary Parish of Isadore with the Rosary to be
prayed at 7 p.m. The mass will be
celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 with the family greeting friends one
hour prior also at Holy Rosary Parish. A
luncheon will follow the mass in the parish basement. Father Donald Libby will serve as
celebrant. Burial in Mt. Calvary
Cemetery of Isadore will be announced in the spring.
Memorials may be directed to Holy Rosary

She was a beautiful, warm woman who was devoted to her family. I will never forget when Joann took Hunter (Kim Flaska Pugliese and Scott Pugliese's son), me and Al (my husband) to visit her at the nursing home. She smiled the entire time we were there. Her smile and look of happiness while her "family" visited with her will stay with me forever.
ReplyDeleteOur sincerest condolences to Joanne, Dwayne, Roger, David and Donald, and to each of your families on the death of your dear Theresa. She was indeed a woman of strength and faith, who raised a large family while juggling the demands of a business too. I remember her working in the grocery store after your dad died, and can still see her there, determined to maintain the business for the support of herself and children. May she now rest in peace with our Lord and her Leonard, Daniel and Lori. She and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Fondly, Judy and Glenn
