William James Terry Sr.

NORTHPORT – William James Terry Sr., of Northport, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Northport Highlands.

William was born on Feb. 13, 1927 in Wayne, MI, the son of William and Ruth (Jameson) Terry.  In 1946 he married Margaret Anne Pohl, who preceded him in death in 2005.

William served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during WWII.  After his service, William earned a B.A. from Michigan State University in Physical Education.  He taught high school and coached football but then realized that he had a talent for sales and could sell anything to anybody.  Most of all, he was a hard-working man who loved his family.

William is survived by his children, Mike (Mila) Terry, Shellie (Dennis) Hicks, Leslie Spencer, Terry Lee (Dave) Matteson, and Pat (Miyuki) Terry; sister, Frances Burlingham; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, William was preceded in death by his son, William Jr. in 2003.

Private family services have been held.
