Warren E. Schmeichel
Died June 26, 2015

TRAVERSE CITY- Warren Emil Schmeichel, 87, of Traverse City, died Friday, June 26, 2015 at Maple Ridge Living Center, Lake City.

Warren was born on March 21, 1928 in Manitowoc, WI, the son of Adolph and Rose (Frary) Schmeichel.  On Aug. 5, 1950 in Kalamazoo, he married Theresa Mae Brennan who survives.

Warren owned Schmeichel’s Edgewater Resort on Glen Lake and he was an x-ray technician at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital from 1967 to 1987.  He was very active in the Gideon International organization and traveled for them overseas and throughout  Michigan distributing bibles.

In addition to his wife of 64 years, Warren is survived by his children, Paul Schmeichel, Pam Richards, Cindy Rice, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Empire.  Pastor James Nihiser will officiate.

    Worked with Warren and Teresa in the Gideon Ministry for many years. They were faithful and dedicated servants of Christ. Warren will be greatly missed.

    I always called him Mr. Schmeichel, but he was my God father, and that's how I looked at him. He and his wife, my God mother, were good and gentle people. They always remembered me during special times in my life. I am saddened to hear he's gone, but I am happy that he's with God in Heaven. My prayers are for my God mother, Paul, Cindy, Pam and their children.
