NORTHPORT – John “Jack” Wallace Mighton,
93, of Oro Valley, AZ., and Northport, MI., passed away July 6, 2015, at Munson
Medical Center. Jack was born May 21, 1922 in Ottawa, IL., the son of Merrill
Wallace Mighton and Hortense (Bassett) McFarland.
He
was raised in St. Petersburg, FLA., and graduated from Carnegie Mellon
University in 1944 with an engineering degree. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II. After the war, he joined The Dow Chemical Company in
Midland, MI., where he worked for 30 years. He retired to Ft. Lauderdale, FLA.,
traveled overseas, and spent summers in Northport.
Jack
was a member of the Midland Kiwanis Club and the Sun City Vistoso Genealogical
Society of Oro Valley. His many interests included sailing, sports cars, and
woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his first
wife, Mary Ellen Ferriter; second wife, Janice Noyes; and a grandson, Cameron
Boman. Survivors
include his wife Joan Phillips Eddy, his children Carol Mighton Haddix, Susan
(Richard) Amen, Nancy Boman, Patricia (Robert) Gebhart, John (Maureen) Mighton
Jr., and stepdaughter Dara Noyes (Charles) Gall. Also surviving are
grandchildren Leigh (Terry Franguiadakis) Haddix, Darcy (Matt) McMahon, Charles
(Krissy) Boman, Traci (Eric) Tesenair, Robert (Marci Milgram) Gebhart, Drake
(Megan Rule) Gebhart, and great grandchildren, Katie, Sully, Maggie, Mickey,
Madison, Spencer, and Lilly.
Jack was a remarkable, loving and
generous man. He will be missed. A
family memorial is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to
medical research for cancer, Parkinson's, or heart disease. Please share
