Charles H. Turnquist
Died November 14, 2015
LAKE LEELANAU –
Charles Herbert Turnquist, 86, of Lake Leelanau, passed away unexpectedly on
Saturday, Nov. 14 at his home.
Charlie was born
on Feb. 20, 1929 in Chicago, the son of Herbert and Ruth Turnquist.
Charlie was the
best father and grandfather a family could ask for. The way he lived and conducted himself in
life continues to be an inspiration to his beloved daughters, his sons-in-law
and, even more so, to his grandsons who adore him.
Charlie loved his
country and was an Army Airborne veteran of the Korean War. He also served his adopted Lake Leelanau home
as a volunteer firefighter.
Charlie enjoyed
his business career but he enjoyed his many years of retirement even more. He was passionate about his four legged
companions, his model railroad, his VFW activities, and his politics. One of his greatest joys was the time he
spent with his dear friends. We were
blessed to share our lives with him.
Charlie is
survived by his daughters, JoAnn (Ernie Csiszar) Turnquist and Sharon (Steve)
Scales; grandsons, Henry and Charlie Scales.
A service with
military honors will be held on Friday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. at the VFW Post 7731
in Lake Leelanau. Chaplain Alan Aldrich will officiate.
Memorials may be
directed to the VFW Post 7731, c/o Quartermaster, P.O. Box 262, Lake Leelanau,
MI 49653.
