Carol F. Maxon
1925 ~ 2016
Carol Finke Maxon, age 90, of Leland passed away on
Monday, May 9, 2016 at Northport Highlands.
Carol was born on Nov. 15, 1925 in Cincinnati, the
daughter of Harry and Georgia (Strietmann) Finke, Jr. On Labor Day in 1991, she
married Glenway W. Maxon, Jr., who preceded her in death on June 4, 2011.
Carol grew up in Cincinnati and attended Lotspeich
Hillsdale Schools. She married and raised three children there. She later lived
in Vero Beach, Florida and Sapphire Lake, North Carolina. Since 1930, she
spent her summers in Leland, later to become a year round resident. Carol had a
big heart and personality. She lived life to the fullest and had a myriad
of interests: volunteering, golfing, playing piano, old movies, big band music,
knitting, and traveling. She was an avid reader, former bowler, a card
shark, and a great entertainer, legendary for her beef dinners and holiday
meals. More than anything she loved her family and decades of Leland life
at her Windyledge Cottage overlooking the Manitous. She shared all of those
interests with family and friends throughout her life. She was generous,
joyful, and fun-loving.
Carol is survived by her children, Richard F. Peck,
Jr., Georgia (James) Peck Rivers, and Louis Harlan Peck; two granddaughters,
Carol (Rashid) Lattouf and Sarah Rivers; siblings, Harry J. Finke III and Susan
J. Finke. In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by
daughter-in-law, Anne Taney Peck.
No services are planned at this time. A memorial event will take place later this
summer.
Memorial donations may be directed to Leland
Township Library, PO Box 736, Leland, MI 49654.
