BAY - Dolores Victoria Stora Hershey of Suttons Bay, Michigan, passed away
peacefully at home with family on November 19, 2016.
She was born on January 21, 1937, in Chicago,
Illinois, the oldest of three children of Thomas and Frances (Kolenda) Stora. A graduate of Wayland High School. She continued her education receiving a
Bachelors and Masters from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Early in her teaching and counseling career
she met David with whom she would share the rest of her life.
God, family and friends were the cornerstone
of her life. Dolores owned two small
businesses; worked as a teacher and counselor in public and catholic education
and at one time was the principal at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Lake
Leelanau.
Whether it be on the home farm in Wayland,
traveling to visit family and friends in the United States and abroad, or
enjoying the peaceful beauty of nature in Leelanau County, Dolores had a simple
elegance that endeared her to everyone.
She was an excellent seamstress who loved to
quilt with her dear friends at the Little Fingers Quilters and Stitchers and
always had several projects to share and display her creativity.
She was preceded in death by her parents and
younger sister, Marie CeCeil. She is
survived by her husband David; her five children, Scott D. (Denise) Hershey,
Jill E. Lofley, Jay D. Hershey, Anne M. (David) Reed and Susan E. (Roeland)
Kil; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their
appreciation to Father Mike Janowski, Father Andy Buvala, Father Dixon, St.
Mary’s Parish Community, friends, and caregivers.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on
Friday, November 25 with the Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at Martinson Funeral
Home of Suttons Bay. The mass will be
celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 26 at St. Mary’s Church in Lake
Leelanau with the family greeting friends one hour prior.
