LAKE LEELANAU – Marion Elizabeth
Flees, 88, of Lake Leelanau passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017
at home with her loving family at her side.
Marion was born on June 28, 1928 to
Albert and Rose (Linguar) Priest on the family farm in Lake Leelanau. Marion was the fifth eldest of seven
children. On Oct. 1, 1949 at St. Mary’s
Church of Lake Leelanau she married LaVern “Zip” Flees who survives.
She was a life-long member of St.
Mary’s Church and graduated from St. Mary’s School. Marion’s first job was working as a secretary
for the court system in Leland. After a
couple of years, she left to work at Fountain Point Resort as a housekeeper,
then a cook (an excellent cook) for over forty-five years.
Marion is survived by her husband
of sixty-seven years, LaVern; her nine children, Diane Kurina of Maple City, Gloria
(Glenn) Huntley of Lake Leelanau, Dennis (Melinda) Flees of Suttons Bay,
Carolyn “Kiki” Flees of Northport, Jane Scranton of Cedar, Allen (Lori) of Omena,
Bruce (Grace) Flees of Warren, Ron (Rachelle) Flees of Lake Ann, Rebecca (Nate)
Kalchik of Omena; a sister, Helen Polhamus of Lake Leelanau; seventeen
grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her sisters, Alice, Lucy, Margaret; her brothers, Alfred and Richard.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8
p.m. on Thursday, June 1 with the Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s
Church of Lake Leelanau. The mass will
be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 2 with the family greeting friends at 9 a.m.
also at the church. Burial will be at a
later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Father Michael Janowski will serve as celebrant.
