MAPLE CITY – Alan Edward Bufka, 47, of Maple City, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 in Maple City.

Alan was born Dec. 16, 1969 in Traverse City the son of Jerome E. Bufka and Clara A. (Belanger) Bufka.

Al graduated from Glen Lake High School where he was a member of the track and field teams; earning his varsity letter.  He enjoyed ice fishing and going to the UP to the family cabin.  Al spent many years as a cook and sixteen years as a contractor for the telephone companies.  He was not a Detroit Lions fan but a Green Bay Packers fan; however, Al did love his Detroit Red Wings and especially his Brendan Shanahan jersey.  

Al is survived by his parents, Jerome and Clara; his siblings, Ann (Scott) Mills, Bob (Andria Metrakos) Bufka, Lou (Erin) Bufka, Matt (Amy) Bufka; his aunts and uncles, Joseph C. Bufka Jr., John (Margaret) Bufka, Nobert (Sue) Bufka, Sandra J. Bufka, Sister Rosemary Belanger, Millie (Elmer) Kalchik, Paul (Ann) Belanger, Ed (Darlene) Belanger, Louise Belanger; his nieces and nephews, Tracy (Levi) Stubbs, Heather (Kevin) Dudek, Austin Mills, Rachel Mills, Jason Marek, Jenna (Michael) Marek, James Marek, Jeffery Marek, Emma Lou Bufka, Joseph Edward Bufka, Haley Bufka; great nieces and nephews, Gideon and Gemma Stubbs, Anthony and Maria Marek, Svea and Gemma Ritthaler.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his aunts and uncles, Ray, Agnes, Bernard, Sam, Margaret, Leona, Leo, Kenneth; and two cousins, Todd Michael Bufka and Kathryn Bufka.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 15, with the rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.  The mass will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Sep. 16 at St. Rita’s/St. Joseph’s Church of Maple City with the family greeting friends at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. Rita’s/St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Maple City.  Father Zeljko Guberovic will serve as celebrant.
