David W. “Mac” McKisson
Died August 27, 2018
NORTHPORT—David West McKisson,
63, of Northport, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at his home in Northport,
surrounded by his loving family.
David was born July 7, 1955 in
Findlay, Ohio, the son of John and Sarah (Sutherland) McKisson. On July 3, 1982 in Leland, he married Susan
(Epting) McKisson who survives.
Growing up, David spent his
summers in Leland at his family’s cottage and decided to move north when he
could. He was finally able to in 1979
when he opened a print shop in Traverse City. His love and passion for this area was
unparalleled.
David was a man with a true zest
for life and a disregard for the status quo. He had a great love of people – known as
Mackie to all. He had a unique, twisted
sense of humor that he shared with everyone. He cared greatly about being genuine; he was a
straight shooter who told it how it was. He felt that integrity was important, and no
matter how he was perceived by others, he had to be true to himself.
David loved his golf, where he
was known as a fierce competitor and a two-time Club Champion at the Leland Country
Club. He also had a great affinity for
the outdoors, hunting and travelling everywhere with his German Shorthairs.
David is survived by his wife,
Susan (Epting) McKisson; his children, Shannon McKisson, Sally (Eric) Andrews,
Daniel (Marina) McKisson and Jason McKisson; and his siblings, Camilla (Hunter)
Marvel, Jack (Peggy) McKisson, Ryan (Mary) McKisson, Bill (Anne) McKisson, Mary
(Bob) Brown, Sarah McKisson and Susie (Steve) Savoie.
He was preceded in death by his
parents.
A celebration of David’s life was
held on Sat. Sept. 1, 2018 at the Leland Lodge.
Condolences may be shared with
David’s family below or on our funeral home Facebook Page.
It was much too early to lose David and I am deeply saddened. On the day he died, I got a picture in my mind of all of the hunting dogs he had and lost, greeting him as he crossed over to guide him home. God bless him and keep him. Love and strength to Sue, Shannon, Dan, Sally and Jason. He was blessed to have your love.
ReplyDeleteTo the McKisson family,

Hi McKisson Family, it has been a long time since I have seen many of you and way too long since I last saw David which will always be a regret. David and I were great friends though - one of those that you could not see for years, but pick up right where you left off. I can still picture David in High School like it was yesterday - he was affectionately referred to back then as Stinky - which I know he didn't appreciate as an adult (but really...who would!). He has always been a truly great friend, full of laughs and mischief, and a highly accomplished man, husband, father, brother and to me - friend. He will be sorely missed by me and all of his friends that he gathered so well during his lifetime. RIP My Friend.... and my sympathies to you all for your loss. With Love, Gary Fruchtman & Family
ReplyDeleteI don’t know where to begin. We’ve been buddies for many years and this loss is Very difficult for us as well as many others. Our most enjoyable times in the last 20 years or so has been battling it out with Dave on the golf course or at the Euchre tables. He was the most competitive, yet fun loving man we’ve ever known. A guy like Dave doesn’t come around too often, and leaves a giant void in our lives. Condolences to Susan and family.
ReplyDeleteSincerely, Skip and Mo Gardner
To the McKisson Family... We are so sorry for your loss. David "Mac" was a good man. He was always such a great host for the annual golf outing in Leland. Great memories! Such a good guy! With deepest sympathy, Keith "Duke" and Joan Attwood
