Died October 28, 2018
PESHAWBESTOWN – Cheri Lynne Olvera, 51, of Peshawbestown,
passed away on October 28, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Cheri was born March 27, 1967 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of
Bartlett and Elizabeth (Southbird) Gibbs.
Cheri was a very bright person. In junior high she was accepted into an
accelerated learning program and later became fluent in Spanish. Her fluency is Spanish spurred a love of the
culture, and she absorbed it into her life.
She loved to cook Spanish dishes and listen to Spanish music; she even
took her family on a trip to Mexico.
Cheri was energetic and always on the move. Her many friends loved her way of speaking
her mind, but always being kind. She had
a loud and infectious laugh that got everyone to smile. She would often laugh so hard she couldn’t
make any noise.
Family was the most important thing to Cheri. She stood as the family protector, making
sure everyone was taken care of. She was
a beautiful, loving mother and will be dearly missed.
Cheri is survived by her children, Jeff (Michelle Marshall)
Gibbs, Victor Olvera, Pablo Olvera, and Tony Olvera; her siblings, Joanne (Rog)
Fox, Jeanette (Ollie) Pierce, Ronald Judson, Rosemary Judson, Elizabeth (Mason)
Gibbs, Debra Fox; and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended
family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson,
Cashius, her sisters, Barbara Sheahan and Linda Holt, and her brothers, Leroy
Judson, and Bartlett Gibbs Jr. in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 7 PM on both Tuesday,
October 30 and Wednesday, October 31 at Cheri’s home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday,
November 1 at 2 PM, with family greeting friends at 1 PM at the Strongheart
Center of Peshawbestown. Rev. Thomas
John will officiate.
Condolences may be shared with Cheri’s family below or on the Martinson Funeral Home Facebook page.
I was shocked and saddened to read of Cheri’s passing. It had been awhile since we had seen each other but I remember her with good feelings. I knew Cheri through my connection with Leelanau Christian Neighbors. We’d always greet each other with a big hug. I don’t know how she died and my prayers are with her family.
