L. Laura Konkal, Died March 20, 2019

L. Laura Konkal
1929 ~ 2019

Lottie Laura Konkal, 89, of Cedar, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Munson Medical Center.  She suffered a hemorrhage stroke on the brain and passed quickly and relatively pain free.

Lottie went by Laura, her middle name, and was born Oct. 28, 1929 in Hamtramck, the daughter of Walter and Mary Zbrudzewski Jagosz.  On May 5, 1951 in St. Thomas Church in Detroit, she married John J. Konkal Jr., who survives.  Laura was a woman of great faith who loved God!

Laura and John met in their teens and became high school sweethearts; they even grew up on the same street.  She worked as a stenographer then at Sanders with her best friend, Loretta, where John visited often.  They have been inseparable ever since.  Fully devoted to each other for 67 years of marriage!! After living in Roseville, they moved to Bloomfield Hills in 1964 where they raised their 6 children.

Laura was a great cook and hostess, and her kitchen and home were always open to everyone.  You didn’t have to worry about popping in unexpectedly; everyone was always welcomed and loved.  She was a ninja with the paring knife, could peel anything in seconds, and could throw a mean shoe! Laura had an infectious laugh and was always happy and positive.

Laura was a nurturing and loving mother, and very dedicated to her family.  She loved to play cards, games and puzzles, and was cutthroat at Skip-Bo!

Laura and John retired up to Cedar in 1995 and enjoyed many years of happy retirement.  Laura sang on St Mary’s choir for many years while her husband John ushered.  She had a beautiful soprano voice.

Laura is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, John; a brother, Gerald Jagosz; six children, Christine (Gary) Wobrock, Robert Konkal, Susan (Michael) Oldham, John P. Konkal, Carol (John) Rakowicz, Paul (Jennifer) Konkal; sixteen grandchildren, Adam, Ryan, Karl, Amanda, Brad, Ted, David, Lauren, Max, Katie, Hayden, Tyler, Sarah, Leah, Sophie and Ben; and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Richard, Walter and John Jagosz.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 29 at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.

The mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30th at St. Mary’s Church of Lake Leelanau with the family greeting friends at 10 a.m.  Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery will be announced at a later date.  Father Bryan Medlin will serve as celebrant.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Schools, PO Box 340, Lake Leelanau, MI 49653.

My sympathies to the Jagosz and Konkal families. Laura was one of the most kind, loving, generous souls I've ever known.
