Tallara “Tally” S. Middleton
1941 ~ 2019
1941 ~ 2019
Tally and Alan shared the joy of family, farmed cherries, taught school, grew gardens, sailed, watched sunsets, and created a loving home in Leelanau county. Tally appreciated learning and loved teaching children how to read. Family time and nurturing the growth of her children and grandchildren was most important to her. She was passionate about nature, projects to protect the environment and living a lifestyle in harmony with her beliefs. She was independently minded, creative, always smiling, and had an eye for the beauty around her.
A graveside funeral service will be held on October 5, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Leelanau Township Cemetery followed by a reception at Trinity Church UCC in Northport. Rev. Phil Garrison will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Leelanau Conservancy, https://www.leelanauconservancy.org/donate/ or the Water Shed Center Grand Traverse Bay, https://www.gtbay.org/giving-opportunities/donate-now/.
Please share condolences and memories with Tally’s family below or on our Facebook page.

ReplyDeleteOur sincere condolences to the Middleton family. Donna and I attended the first part of your graveside funeral, but I had to leave early due to a minor problem that is challenging me (Jim). There were so many people that I wanted to talk to and share stories with and especially with the family (you special girls). I wanted to talk about what a privilege and honor that it was to build the family home on the hill top many years ago. When you work with someone you truly get to know them well and I certainly did and what a wonderful experience! Both Alan and Tally were "green" before it was fashionable. I learned a great deal working with them to make these important decisions and selections for the house. Bob Kattelus, the architect (recently deceased) had a beautiful design - all we had to do was figure out how to build it and what materials were to be used -- simple, right? I had the input of a practical farmer and the academic-poetic dreamer of the wife to satisfy. What a wonderful combination ! - We all had such a positive experience and the end result was obvious. Working along side of Alan and Tally was a true joy and getting to know all you girls was a real bonus. We were all blessed to be a part of this memorable effort. It all went by so fast -- too fast! May Alan and Tally rest in peace with God as their gifts to us remain in our hearts.
Love and may God Bless you,
Jim & Donna Anderson

We were sorry to miss you and appreciate your note here. Tally and Alan really loved the house you built. And now us four sisters are happy to say we are able to keep the house and farm land:) Please feel free to stop by if you are in the area. Thank you very much for your thoughts. Amy
DeleteWe at The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay want to express our sincere condolences to the Middleton family. We got to know Tally quite a few years ago when she volunteered for our Adopt-A-Stream program, and even more recently with her involvement in stormwater projects in the Village of Northport. Her simple love for our pristine waters in Leelanau County was like none other and we appreciated her support of our passion and mission for protecting water quality. May she rest in peace.

DeleteYour mom was the best friend my mom (Georgeanne Moeller) ever had, and I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to connect them on the phone one last time. My mother was hospitalized with a serious blood infection for three weeks in September and is now in a memory care home. I know that she loved Tally very much. I appreciated how often your mom called to check up on her. My heartfelt condolences.
