David L. Arnold
Died Nov. 4, 2019

CHARLEVOIX -  David Lloyd Arnold, 80, of Charlevoix died on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019 at Northport Highlands.

Born in Charlevoix on Sept 28, 1939, Dave was proud to be a fourth generation local boy.  He graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1957.

Dave served in the Navy from 1959 to 1963, primarily on a submarine repair ship in San Diego where he learned and perfected his welding skills.   These skills supported his family for his entire career.  He was self-employed and created many significant projects in the area.  These included the building of the water tank for the petunia truck and the adjustable stairway for the Beaver Island Boat Co.

He did fabrication and repair work for the US Coast Guard, MI DNR, the City of Charlevoix, the airport, the local boat companies, the hospital, the cement plant, the farmers, and many private homes.

For many years, Dave served on the local Boy Scout Council.  He enjoyed camping and canoeing trips with the boys, as well as helping many of them with their projects to achieve their Eagle status in the troop.  He also enjoyed reading, ballroom dancing, and road trips.

In 1964, Dave married Lillian (Linny) Nodacker in San Diego.  They moved to Charlevoix in 1966 and made this place their permanent home.

Dave is survived by his wife, his daughter Karen Arnold MacFarlan(John) and his son Gary Arnold.  Also surviving are his sister Eilene Smith, his brother Gilbert Arnold, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Aletha Arnold, and his sister Frances Hussey.

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9th at the Barnard Grange Hall, 15975 Klooster Rd., Charlevoix.  There will be no formal memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dave’s memory to any local charity of your choice.

  3. Dave always had an infectious smile, and a very friendly person whom always loved to talk. I'll never forget the day I first met him and Linny at Ken and my wedding. His comment to me was, "Your big enough to beat a bear with just a switch". Funny man. He never let any kind of welding stop him. His attitude was, you'll never know if you don't try! Ken and his dad Lloyd worked with Dave off and on over the years on many of his welding projects. Dave will sorely missed by all. Rest in peace my friend.
