Sandra R. Mitchell
Died December 15, 2019
Sandy was born Feb. 6, 1954 in Austell, GA the daughter of James Edward Richardson and Ruby M. (Helms) Richardson. On Nov. 30, 1974 at the Davis Chapel Baptist Church of Austell, GA she married Donald W. Mitchell.
Sandy, an administrative assistant to the president of each, dedicated 25 years of service to the Leelanau School of Glen Arbor, where she impacted many student lives, and for 4 years for Munson Medical Center.
She was a child of God with incredible grit and determination. Sandy’s declining health had her body failing but her mind and soul were as strong as ever. She was a kind-hearted and loving mother and would give the shirt off of her back to help someone.
Thankfully, Sandy was able to read. As such, she enjoyed reading the Holy Scriptures, the Portals of Prayer and the Jesus Calling series. Her mind was sharp as she worked at numerous puzzles, and she could still offer advice. Even in her sickness, her children remember her baking skills, the fresh baked apple pies, cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies.
Our dearest Sandy was served by an Cloud of Angels and the family thanks Munson Private Duty and especially Allison, Candy, Lisa, Sally and Summer and all those who lent a hand in her care.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband of forty-five years, Donald; her mother, Ruby; her children, Jesse Mitchell, Cory Mitchell; her siblings, Pat (Sonny) Carlyle, James (Sue) Richardson, John (Sherri) Richardson, Glenn Richardson; and three grandchildren, Xavian, Mattea and Ruby.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ed and a sister-in-law, Nancy Richardson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Leland. Pastor Joshua LaFeve will officiate.
Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, PO Box 436, Leland, MI, 49654.

Dear Don and family,
ReplyDeleteWe send belated but most sincere condolences on your loss of dear Sandy.
We have very fond memories of Sandy in our years together, meeting and partying as the Farm Bureau group, the Bureau Drawers -!
She was truly a kind-hearted, loving soul. She had a peacefulness about her that touched us all, and we loved her warm southern accent -- always a true Georgia girl.
We admired that she held a demanding position for so many years at the Leelanau School, while juggling raising her dear Jesse and Cory. Her strength in facing the physical challenges of the last many years, and her unwavering faith, were both truly inspirational to all of us.
May Sandy now rest in peace in the loving arms of our Lord.
Fondly, with prayers for all,
Judy and Glenn LaCross
