TRAVERSE
CITY – Betty Jean Mucha, 82, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at
Munson Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was
born Nov. 27, 1934 in Lake Leelanau the daughter of Roy and Mazil (McNeeley)
Couturier. On Oct. 29, 1955 at St.
Mary’s Church of Lake Leelanau she married Edwin P. Mucha who survives.
Betty
graduated from St. Mary’s School with the Class of 1952. She met her husband at the Coliseum Roller Rink
in Traverse City during the days of wooden roller wheels on a hardwood
floor. Betty was an Air Force mother
while Edwin served.
She was
most proud of her apple sauce, Betty would think something was wrong if her
family didn’t ask for second, third or fourth helpings.
Betty is
survived by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Edwin; two children,
Franklin (Sari) Mucha, Janet (Bob) Maine; a sister, Helen (Harold) O’Brien; her
grandchildren, Liza (Drew) Simpson, Lindsey (Clayton) Moe, Landen Mucha,
Nicholas (Rose) Bostic, Lauren Bostic, Ryan (Maria) Bostic, Abigail Maine,
Libby Maine, Matthew Maine, Frannie Maine and honorary Mucha, Anthony Maley;
her great grandchildren, Andrew, Olivia, Ava, Lillian, Savannah, Cecilia,
Elizabeth, Thomas, Charlie and Andrew.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, a loving daughter and son-in-law, Terri
(Thomas) Bostic; and her siblings, Rosalind, Leroy, Richard and Fred.
Visitation
will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 2 with the Rosary at 7 p.m. at
the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
The mass will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church
of Lake Leelanau.
In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Schools, PO Box 340, Lake
Leelanau, MI 49653.

The greatest legacy Betty leaves is through the family that carries on her memory and spirit every day. The second greatest is the imprint that other people have received knowing Betty and her family.
ReplyDeleteWe consider ourselves the lucky one having Betty and the Mucha's in our lives. We became neighbors in Sugarloaf and a special place became more special because of Betty.
From barbeques to Dick's to riding in the honey car to learning the lore of Lake Leelanau to watching fireworks in Leland or Traverse City-my husband and I adopted them as our other Mom and Dad. Going up north became more about seeing them than anything else.
Our hearts are heavy and we are devastated with this news. We may be far away but we carry her with us.
