LELAND – Jean Evans Muir, 80, of Leland, passed away Monday, July 24, 2017 at Munson Hospice House.

Jean was born Nov. 30, 1936 in Cincinnati, the daughter of Edward and Marion (Bond) Evans.  She married her loving husband of sixty years, Jerry Kenneth Muir, in 1957 in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Jean graduated from Vassar College.  Her husband’s career necessitated a number of moves throughout the country prior to retirement to their beloved Leland, where Jean had spent many happy summers.  “Jeannie,” as she was often called by her many friends, was a true doer.  She actively sought to become involved in local organizations and activities.  She was always happiest when she was in the company of her family and friends and was beloved by so many people.

Jean had a strong faith and was always active within her church, including serving as a vestry member at St. Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in Chicago, IL.  She was most recently a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Northport.  She was an excellent tennis player throughout her life.  Jean was incredibly talented and creative and had a gift for making things beautiful.  This showed up in her beautiful perennial gardens, her flower arrangements, and in her outstanding needlepoint and quilting.  For many years she was an active member of The Junior League of Short Hills, NJ.  Jean had a keen interest in genealogy and was a member of The Mayflower Society and The Daughters of The American Revolution.  She served as a member of the Leland Country Club Board and was past President of the Leland Women’s Civic Club.  She was a member of The Little Garden Club, a volunteer at ShareCare of Leelanau, The Community Cultural Center, The Wildflower Rescue for The Leelanau Conservancy, among many other organizations.  Jean also loved her several stitching groups, bible study groups, and book groups.  Jean was blessed by many friendships and caring people in her life, for which her family is grateful.

Jean is survived by her husband, Jerry; her children, Bradley Muir, Edward Muir, Marion (Charles) Hall; a brother, Richard (Elizabeth) Evans; three grandchildren, Margaret Muir, Sarah Hall, and Chase Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Private family services and interment in Beechwood Cemetery, has been held.
