Robert P. Lingaur
Died Sept. 10, 2017
LAKE LEELANAU – Robert Peter Lingaur,
88, of Lake Leelanau passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 at Tendercare of
Leelanau with his loving family at his side.
Robert was born Oct. 14, 1928 in Lake
Leelanau the son of Peter and Nina (Johnson) Lingaur. On Sept. 2, 1950 at Holy Rosary Parish of
Isadore he married his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Martha (Popa) Lingaur; who
preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 2009.
Robert was a life-long supporter of
St. Mary’s School and Church. He
graduated with the class of 1947 where he was an avid high school basketball
and baseball player. Robert was the
fourth generation of Lingaurs to work the family centennial farm. The farm was originated by Robert’s great
grandfather, Peter, in Nov. 15, 1863 and the farm will celebrate its 154th
anniversary this November.
He was a man with a strong work
ethic. Robert worked two jobs to support
the family. He worked at Parsons and
later worked at Cone Drive; retiring in Nov. 1990 after decades of
service. During his time at Parsons and
Cone Drive he also ran the family farm.
Robert would schedule his vacation time from his job to work the harvest
at the farm. He was a proud cherry farmer
and loved showing it off to the friends and family.
Robert loved deer hunting and fishing
whether casting a line or waiting for a pop-up on the ice. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, loved his
baseball cap with the Tiger’s old English D and his John Deere tractors.
He was a man of hard work, deep faith
and unending love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his five
children, Gary L. (Patti) Lingaur, Ronald D. (Genevieve) Lingaur, Sharon M. (Christopher)
Gelmini, Gregory J. Lingaur, Mary Ann L. (Joseph) Smith; eight grandchildren;
one step grandchild; five great-grandchildren; and three step
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
Mary Martha; his son, Robert T. Lingaur, Jr.; a brother, Louis Lingaur; and his
parents.
Visitation will be held today, Sept.
12 from 5 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church
of Lake Leelanau. The mass will be held
at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13 also at St. Mary’s with the family greeting
friends at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in
St. Mary’s Cemetery. Father Bryan Medlin
will serve as celebrant.
