Laura T. Moreland

Died August 30, 2020

CEDAR– Laura T. Moreland, 96, of Cedar, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Effie’s Assisted Living.

Laura was born June 30, 1924 in Dillonvale, Ohio, the daughter of Julius and Hedwig (Soltysiak) Figurski. On May 25, 1946 in Detroit, she married Alwin R. Moreland who preceded her in death on January 10, 1994.

She was apprehensive about driving and did not get her driver’s license until she was 21. After earning her license, Laura was a proud school bus driver for the Detroit and Leland Public School Systems. She liked to travel by car or train, listen to books, and watch or listen to the Detroit Tigers games. Laura was a devout Catholic and was a lady of deep faith and was firm in her decisions and beliefs.

Laura is survived by her children, Craig Moreland, Peggy (Norm) Gauthier, Laura (Rich) Nachazel; stepdaughter, Evelyn Easter; a sister, Mary Freeman; and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alwin; stepsons, Alwin and Gibby Moreland; and her siblings, Helen Gajewski, Frances Figurski, Anna Eickholdt, Casmir Figurski and Ted Figurski.

Private family graveside services have been held in the Swedish Mission Cemetery of Good Harbor.
