Arthur Schwanke

Died October 29, 2013

TRAVERSE CITY – Arthur Schwanke, 79, of Traverse City, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at Munson Medical Center.

  Arthur was born on April 3, 1934 in Yuba, the son of Arthur and Cecilia (Anse) Schwanke.  He was married to Judith E. Bergey who preceded him in death in 2011.

  Arthur served in the U.S. Army for 8 years during the Korean War.  He worked for 15 years at the Record-Eagle as well as a tobacco, cherry and apple farmer.  Arthur enjoyed fishing and bowling.

  He also loved playing euchre and often played in tournaments.

  Arthur is survived by his two children, Dawn Zimmerman and Duane (Anne) Schwanke; two sisters, Suzanne Traylor and Shirley Nichols; six grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

  In addition to his wife, Arthur was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Clifford Gould, Chester, Jerry, Julius and Lawrence Schwanke; and a sister, Mildred Barrera.

  Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to the start of the 12 noon funeral service at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.  Burial will follow at Kateri Tekakwitha Cemetery in Peshawbestown.  The Rev. Tom John will officiate.
