MAPLE CITY – Irene Elizabeth Gatzke, 96, of Maple City, passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 at Maple Valley Nursing Home
  Irene was born on March 8, 1918 in Centerville Township, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Brzezinski) Laskey.  On June 12, 1943 in Detroit, she married Leonard D. Gatzke who preceded her in death in 1985.
  Irene worked at Sugarloaf as a housekeeping manager from its inception to her retirement.  She was a member of St. Rita-St. Joseph Church in Maple City, serving on the Parish Altar and Rosary Societies.  Irene was also involved in the Maple Valley Nursing Home Auxillary and was a Cancer Crusader for many years.
   Irene is survived by her son, Daniel L. Gatzke.
  In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her siblings, Aloyze B. Laskey, Sr., Katherine Strang, Jean Kilwy, Mary Rosinski, Joseph Laskey, Frank Laskey, John Laskey, and Gertrude Rosman.
  Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. with the rosary to be prayed 7 p.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Maple City.  The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Rita.  Burial will follow at St. Rita Cemetery.  Fr. Donald Libby will serve as celebrant.
  Memorials may be directed to Mass Intentions.
