Dorothy Sibley Peabody Johnson
1919 ~ 2015
She was born April 18,
1919 in Detroit. On May 10, 1941 she married
Charles B. Johnson, Jr., who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Johnson‘s family,
the Campaus, were among the original settlers in Detroit, arriving in
1708. She was a direct descendent of
Solomon Sibley, first mayor of Detroit, appointed in 1806. She was understandably proud of her
ancestors’ contributions to the city of Detroit.
She was an active
volunteer in The Junior League of Detroit, Tau Beta Association, The National
Society of The Colonial Dames of America and The Garden Club of Michigan. At the center of her life were her family
and friends.
She is survived by her
son, Dr. Charles (Marjorie) Johnson III of Worthington, MA; daughters, Sibley
(Clifford) Arnebeck of Columbus, OH, Deborah (David) Gillespie of Bloomfield
Hills, MI, and Becky Hanna of Winter Park, FL; 8 grandchildren, Peter and
Christopher Johnson, Elizabeth (Mike) Eagles, Sarah (Stephen) Hoskins, Charles
(Jenny) Maldonado, Andrew Gillespie, Whitney (Adam) Balmert, and Dr. Timothy
Hanna; and 5 great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Claire Eagles, James Robert
Hoskins, Addie Maldonado, and Tucker Balmert.
A memorial service will
be held later this summer. Donations may
be made to The Sibley House Fund, Mrs. Johnson’s ancestral home, c/o Christ
Church, Detroit, 960 East Jefferson Avenue, Detroit 48207 or to a charity of
your choice.
Arrangements are with
the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
Sad to learn that another neighbor has left "our road". We remember Do as a gracious, kind and cheerful presence. Thinking of you, Sibley.
