Mary L. Holt

Died May 14, 2015

SUTTONS BAY – Mary Loretta Holt, 97, of Suttons Bay and California, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at her home in Southern California.

  Mary was born on November 25, 1917 in Suttons Bay, the daughter of Martin and Bertha (Husby) Rude.  On July 17, 1947 at First Lutheran Church, Suttons Bay, she married Karl William Holt who preceded her in death on September 24, 2002
  Mary attended Suttons Bay Schools and following graduation attended Michigan Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) receiving a Bachelors of Arts Degree.
  She was employed as an elementary school teacher in the Traverse City and Suttons Bay Schools for a period extending over 30 years. Following her retirement, she and Karl customarily spent the winter seasons with their sons in Southern California and summered in Northern Michigan.
  Mary is survived by her children Timothy (Jan) Holt of Rancho Mirage, CA, Robert (Mari) Holt of Blythe, CA, and James G Holt of Holtville, CA; grandchildren Lindsay, Laura, Andrew, Ashley, Olivia, Nathan, and Chelsea Holt, all of California.
  Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Suttons Bay.  The Reverend Paul Zagar will officiate.
