SAGINAW – Janie Ortiz
Sanchez-Trejo, 92, of Saginaw and formerly of Lake Leelanau, passed away
Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 at Caretel Inns of the Tri-Cities.
Janie was born on May 16, 1923
in San Antonio, the daughter of Rufugio and Cecelia (Ortiz) Sanchez. On April 2, 1950 in Ithaca, she married Arturo
G. Trejo who preceded her in death on March 15, 1996.
Janie was known as "Mom" to many.
Being a strong woman she held many roles. Coming from a family of migrant
workers she started strong driving delivery trucks delivering tortilla, being a
translator and foreman with the cherry crops and driving the trucks to the
processing plants along with handling the cherry shakers. She could double clutch with the best of them. She also drove a bus for the handicap in
Saginaw Township. Mom loved to drive and travel and she loved her golf and
bowling. She was also very active in her
church. In her later years she moved in
to Shields Comfort Care in Shields, MI where she met many wonderful people.
The family would like to take the time to thank
Shields Comfort Care for all the wonderful care and for the friendships made as
well as the 6th floor of Covenant Harrison who were very attentive during her
stay.
Janie is survived by her children, Donald (Mary) Trejo of Rochester
Hills, Sam Trejo of Saginaw, (Martin) Lucy Cramton of Charlotte, N.C.,
(Cameron) Elizabeth Welch of Saginaw, (Kevin) Kathy Bowen of Traverse City;
sister, Minie Ramon; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 45 years, Janie was preceded in death by
her siblings, Bertha Rosalez, Antonio Sanchez, Agnes Flores, Petra Rivera, and
Concha Rodriguez.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to the start of
the 12 p.m. funeral service at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. Burial will follow at Suttons Bay Township
Cemetery. The Rev. Joel Brown will
officiate.
Memorials may be directed to Shields Comfort Care, 9140 Gratiot Road,
Saginaw, MI 48609.
Please share memories and
condolences with Janie’s family below:
My Aunt Janie was a rock, leader and always an example of the song "I did it my way". And she did it right. Love you Aunt Janie.
ReplyDeleteThe Gallegos family remembered Janie Trejo often in our thoughts and conversations. She was our mother cousin. Her mother was our Grand Aunt Cecelia that my mother and I used to visit often as a child when she lived on 4th Street in Saginaw. I remembered Arturo Trejo Janie’s husband because he was also such a dedicated hard worker as was Janie. I remember Janie as an industrious humming bumble bee of activity with that quick laughter and mysterious Mona Lisa smile. She was more Ortiz than my own mother. You never knew what she was thinking. I admired her ability to communicate and her quick wit which always left you with a very good memory. She was so fortunate to have lived in Lake Leelanau a most beautiful locale one that my wife and I will visit this next July. On behalf of the Gallegos family please accept our deepest condolences to the family on their great loss.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteRay and I are so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She was such a sweet lady and we always enjoyed seeing her at the bowling alley when we all bowled together years ago. I wish we could have made it to her visitation and service but know that we are thinking of you, Kevin and Brian as you go through this difficult time and we are surrounding your family in prayer. Love, Deb and Ray Cormier
