SUTTONS BAY – Captain Peter Douglas Jones, 62, of Suttons
Bay, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb, 14, 2016.
Peter was born April
27, 1953 in Buffalo, New York the son of Melvin and Edith (Hood) Jones. On Sep. 8, 1990 under full sail aboard the

his life Demarie (Goodney) Jones who survives.
Peter was passionate
about his love of sailing, his family, social justice issues and was a mental
health advocate. He filled every room he
entered with laughter and exuberant belly-patting. His over-grown beard, Indy and Formula One
racing and stories of the sea were often the topic of conversations from the
comfort of his chair. When it came to
sickness or stress, Peter was known to smile and sing Bob Marley. “Don’t worry
about a thing, ‘cause every little thing gonna be alright.” Everything will be
all right now for this loving husband, father and friend.
Peter is survived by his wife, Demarie; a
daughter, Taryn (Russell) Carew, a son, Mackenzie (Haley Dover) Jones; a

When I first met Peter, I was a bit afraid of him. He was a big guy with a booming voice and he wasn't afraid to express his mind. I soon learned that despite that burly exterior, he was a kind soul with a passion for people and a deep love for his family and friends. During our work together on the Consumer Advocacy Council at Northern Lakes Community Mental Health, we could always count on Peter to be the voice of those who couldn't or didn't want to speak. Peter wanted to see the world changed to bring about an equal level of inclusion, safety and care for all. He was always kind and considerate to me and I felt he was a genuine friend. I'm deeply honored to have known him and I can only hope that in my life I could be as good a person. I will miss him immensely.
