ELMWOOD TOWNSHIP - Fred Plamondon passed away on April 29, 2016 at Munson Hospital at 79 years of age.



  Fred was born on April 20. 1937 in Traverse City to Ralph “Dick” Plamondon and Suzanne (Taghon) Plamondon.  He attended school at St Mary in Lake Leelanau, graduating in 1955.  Two days later he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for four years



  He attended Northwestern College for some time and soon found his calling when he started the Plamondon Insurance Agency.  He met and served a great many in that capacity for forty-three years, first in Lake Leelanau and then in Greilickville.



  Fred enjoyed collecting and restoring vintage automobiles.  He also loved hunting and fishing.  Unofficially he became known as the “Mayor” of Lake Leelanau and could be spotted riding in his golf card in nice weather.  He was especially interested in athletics at St Mary School and never missed a sporting event.



  Fred is survived by his son Kevin Plamondon; his siblings Shirley Tanguay, Suzanne Larson, Sandra (Tom) Redlon, Richard (Sue) Plamondon, Sara Smith, Ronald (Tina) Plamondon and Steven (Bonnie) Plamondon; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  He will also be missed by many cousins on both the Plamondon and Taghon sides of the family and his many friends.

    My condolences to the Plamondon family for the loss of Fred. I am glad I was able to spend time with him this past Sept. at out 60th class reunion. I will always remember the day we toured the area with Pat G. and LaVern P. May he rest in peace.
