David J. Sprout
Died Sept. 19, 2016
LELAND
– David Judd Sprout, 90, of Leland, passed away Monday, Sept. 19, 2016 at home
with family by his side. David was born
on March 22, 1926 in Marion, Ohio, the son of Paul and Evelyn (Judy) Sprout.
He grew up in Dayton, Ohio and joined the
U.S. Navy, immediately after graduating from Fairview ('44), and saw action in
the Pacific Theatre. He returned to
Otterbein College ('50) in Westerville, Ohio and began a career at Frigidaire
back in Dayton, where he met Gretchen Kennedy. They were married on Sept. 20, 1952 at
Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Soon after, he moved careers to home
building, first with Huber Homes, and then with his own Judd Construction
Company, working almost thirty years in the greater Dayton area while he and
Gretchen raised their family.
David and Gretchen relocated to Sarasota,
Florida, in 1981, where he finished out his building career before finally
retiring to Leland in 1996.
Dave was grateful and appreciated his many blessings.
His loving wife and family, an ever
widening circle of friends, and the game of golf were at the top of a long
list.
Dave was community active everywhere he
lived, serving on numerous boards and organizations, in Dayton, Ohio; Sarasota,
Florida; and Leland, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Gretchen, their
four children, Michael (Holly), Tobin (Laura), Linda (Brian Bastion), and Jeff
(Amy) Sprout; and eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Blair, Brogan, Turner, Martha,
Parker, Haydn, and Hanna.
He was
preceded in death by his sister, Janet Craig (Berton).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday,
Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Leland Community United Methodist Church.
