Died Nov. 6, 2016
SUTTONS BAY – Peter John Mikowski, 61, of Suttons Bay, passed
away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 at Munson Hospice House.
Pete was born on October 15, 1955 in Traverse City, MI, the
son of Leonard and Delores (Leabo) Mikowski.
He graduated from Suttons Bay High School in 1974 and on Sept. 13, 1975
at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, he married his best friend and love of his
life, Kathleen Taber, who survives. He
began his career following in his father’s footsteps with his love and passion
of the trucking industry. He started out
driving a dump truck for his father and it wasn’t long after that he learned to
drive a semi-truck. He was hooked for
life. He and his brother, Greg, bought
and carried on the family business of L Mikowski & Sons, Inc. Pete was later given the opportunity to put
his phenomenal people skills to work and sell semi-trucks at Great Lakes Truck
Center in Traverse City. He was a man of
many talents. He later dispatched for
Michibay Fruit, J L Smith Trucking and K & J Logistics.
Pete’s love of life was endless, with his compassion and
unwavering generosity to put others before himself. He put his faith and family first. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and
golfing. His ultimate dream was to
retire and live on their property on the Manistee river. Even through his declining health he never
lost his sense of humor and compassion for others. The world is lessor place without him and
Pete will be forever missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Peter is survived by his
sons, Mason (Nikki Maxbauer) and Jerry Mikowski; daughter, Delayna (Eric)
Steffens; grandchildren, Harley and Macey; mother, Delores Mikowski; siblings,
Delores (Leonard) Couturier, Greg (Linda) Mikowski, Dawn (Jim) Collins, Mike
(Elaine) Mikowski, Joe Mikowski, Tony (Dede) Mikowski, Tina (Joe) Cook, Mark
(Kris) Mikowski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m.
with the rosary at 7 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay. The memorial mass will be celebrated on
Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, Suttons Bay. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Fr. Leonard Paul and Fr. Kenneth Stachnik will
serve as celebrants.
Memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice House.
Dear Kathy and Family, My thoughts and prayers go out to you. Pete was a great guy that had nothing but pleasant words for everyone. He will be missed by all and kept in my heart. I wish I could be there in your time of need but my prayers for healing hearts are sent. Pete will be watching over all of us and I'll take him with me on the golf course! ReplyDeleteOur most sincere condolences on the loss of your Pete. He was truly a nice guy who was a pleasure to be around. He proved his skill in truck driving during the time he was with us in Michibay Fruit Trucking. Pete's good nature and work ethic made it a pleasure to associate with him. He left this world a better place for having been a part of it for 61 years, and will truly be missed. May he now rest in peace in God's country. Our thoughts and prayers are for him, and with you all.
