Julius Tatar
Died December 21, 2016
SUTTONS BAY – Julius
Tatar, 95, of Suttons Bay, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016 at TenderCare
of Leelanau.
Julius “Spud” was born March 31, 1921 in
Akron, Ohio, the son of Thomas and Katie (Sutovic) Tatar. In 1947 he married his loving wife of sixty-five
years, Eva May Tatar who preceded him in death on April 23, 2013.
Spud was a fiercely independent man. Not one to work under someone else's direction
and a mechanic by trade; he successfully owned and operated several service
stations and recreational vehicle sales stores.
Spud and the love of his life, Eva, loved to
travel. Upon retirement, the purchase of
a motor home lead them on a great tour of this great nation. At 83, a terrible fall off the roof of his
garage left Spud with a closed head injury. Eva cared for and pushed Spud to persevere
through the injury the first five years and then reluctantly turned his care
over to the Tendercare of Leelanau where he spent his last years under their exceptional
care.
Julius is survived
by his four children, Timothy (Sandy) Tatar of Petersburg, Thomas (Diane) Tatar
of Traverse City, Kenneth (Nicole) Tatar of Macomb, Grace Pickowitz of Battle
Creek; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his
wife, Eva; a son-in-law, William Pickowitz; and a grandson, Scott Tatar.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on
Friday, Dec. 30 at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
Memorials may be directed to Leelanau County
Senior Services, 8527 East Government Center Drive, Suite 106, Suttons Bay, MI
49682.
