David J. Crider
Died March 9, 2017
SUTTONS BAY – David Joseph Crider,
60, of Suttons Bay, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Munson Medical
Center surrounded by his loving family.
David was born Sep. 24, 1956 in Flint the son of James August
Crider and Josephine Frances (Nemeskal) Crider.
On Dec. 1, 1979 at St. Michael’s Church of Suttons Bay he married Sherri
(Leabo) Crider, who survives.
Dave was a car buff, master mechanic and master welder. From a
very young, age Dave developed a love for mechanics. Professionally he worked as
a teen for Vans Garage in Leland, followed by Jacks Auto in Traverse City for
over a decade before owning his own business, D&D Auto and Speed Shop. There he fulfilled his passion of serving his
community and building custom drag cars.
He loved drag racing at Kalava and the Mid-Michigan Motorplex in his
1966 El Camino named "The Critter".
For many years, Dave worked to restore his brother James’ 1957 Chevy.
Dave was also a
self-taught drummer and had his own Rock and Roll band named Breakwater. His
natural gift as an artist was a therapeutic hobby. He could draw, paint and love building his
intricate collection of model cars. He
loved the outdoors, especially hunting on the family farms in Lake Leelanau and
Suttons Bay and to fish on Little Traverse Lake. The family has found memories
of camping trips to the Upper Peninsula when his children were young.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Sherri;
three children, Christine (Josh) Porter, David A. Crider, Laura J. Crider; a
sister, Cheryl (Michael) Wildfong, a sister-in-law, Jean (Tom) LaVigne; four
nieces and nephews, Doug (Sheila) Crider, Amy (Scott) Connolly, Gwyn (Brad)
Abbott, Nicole Petrella; two grandchildren, Tyler and Anna Porter; and many
loving members of the Leabo Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James
Bruce Crider.

ReplyDeleteI am so glad to have been able to meet and spend time with Dave over the past two years. He was a very special man who loved his family fiercely and his God mightily. He was thoughtful and caring and so very talented in many ways. Sherri, I send my condolences to you and your family. I know he will be missed for a long time to come, but I also know that he is with his Lord in Heaven and is no longer in any pain.
