Inez G. Kirt
Died June 3, 2017
CEDAR – Inez Gertrude Kirt, 98, of Cedar passed away
Saturday, June 3, 2017 at TenderCare of Leelanau.
Inez was born July 1, 1918 in Lake Leelanau, the daughter of
George and Selena (Drow) Richard. On May 2, 1939 at St. Mary’s Church of Lake
Leelanau she married Alfred Joseph Kirt who preceded her in death in 1968.
Inez was a proud Leelanau County resident her entire
life. Her early years were spent in Lake
Leelanau and then she moved to a Cedar farm in 1949. Inez was the last Kirt of her generation to
pass, sadly her brother-in-law, Joe, died just a few weeks ago.
She was the valedictorian of her Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s
High School Class of 1937. Due to
financial reasons, Inez could not afford to attend college but made certain that
all of her children received a college degree.
A common weekday evening activity included her children
doing homework on the kitchen table, after it was cleaned and before anyone
could watch television.
Inez was very proud to become the first Leelanau County
(Centerville Township) Supervisor and kept meticulous records. She later worked at various positions for
Leelanau County. Inez enjoyed her
family, religion, cooking, gardening, quilting and playing cards.
The family wishes to thank the staff, doctors and nurses of
TenderCare of Leelanau for the wonderful care of our dearest mother.
Inez is survived by her two sons, Russell (Pamela) Kirt, Edward
(Debra) Kirt; three daughters, Sandra Mary Kirt, Ann (Allen) Forrester, Mary
(Kevin) Lizenby and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Alfred, a daughter Myrtle (William) Tolstedt; her sisters, Marie (Ludwig)
Kolarik; Bess (Bernard) Schultz, Edna (Raymond) Maleski, and Sister Thomas
Bernard; her parent in laws, Louis (Mary) Kirt; her in laws, Dennis (Mildred)
Kirt, Arthur Kirt, Don (Edith) Kirt, Joseph (Marcia) Kirt, Edith (Walter)
Matthes, Florence (Peter) Sharnowski, Margaret (Aloysius) Peplinski.

ReplyDeleteDear Kirt Family,
ReplyDeleteWe send our most sincere condolences on your loss of dear Inez. She was a true gem! Always such a sweet smile and calm friendliness. Her love of family and strong Catholic faith was always evident. Glenn remembers working with her when he was on the Zoning Board and that she truly was very organized and capable as Supervisor. Judy was friends with Myrtle at NMC and she and Inez always reminisced about her and her untimely passing. We continued our connection all the while she was at Tendercare, and we truly regret that we could not attend her services. We were there in spirit, and will hold her and all the family in our prayers. We will make a contribution in her honor to our Adoration Chapel at Holy Rosary. We could see her enjoying an hour a week there in her younger years, in the peaceful presence of our Lord, had it been built then. May Inez now truly rest in peace in Heaven with her dear family members.
Fondly,
Judy and Glenn LaCross
