OMENA – Robert Allen Krist, 75, of Omena, formerly of Southfield, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 at TenderCare of Leelanau with his loving family at his side.

Robert was born on Nov. 28, 1941 in Detroit, the son of Arthur Edgar Krist and Helen Louise Hofsess (Krist).  On Dec. 18, 1965 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Birmingham, he married Julie Marianne Elizabeth (Reinhard) Krist, who survives.

Robert loved being with children and taught at Brace-Lederle Elementary School in Southfield for 35 years.  He taught driver’s education and was a swim coach after being on the Wayne State University swim team in college.  Robert and Julie retired to Leelanau County in 1999 where he became active in the Omena Woods Association, Omena Historial Society and was a member of the Omena-Traverse Yacht Club.  Robert loved the outdoors and enjoyed cross country skiing, ice boating, swimming, travelling, and bicycling with Julie on their tandem bike.

Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Julie; his daughters, Jennifer (Dustin) Goshorn, Heidi (Andrew) Nelden; his brothers, Gerald (Sharon) and Thomas Krist; and his grandchildren, Abigail, Benjamin, Cooper, and Ella.

Services were held June 2 at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church of Birmingham.  Reverends Ron Farah and Stephen Woodfig officiated.  A celebration for Mr. Krist in Leelanau County will be announced at a later date.
