SUTTONS BAY – Catherine Fairfield, 93, of Suttons Bay and formerly of Roseville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018 at French Manor South in Traverse City.
Catherine was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 1, 1924 to the late Magdalena and Nicholas Ringler. On November 22, 1945 at the Sacred Heart Church of Roseville, she married Jack Fairfield, who is recently deceased this January 2018.
Catherine lived a full and happy life. She was married to her husband, Jack, for 72 years. Catherine graduated from Fraser High School in 1942 and shortly after began work at the Briggs Factory in Detroit. She worked as a riveter and secretary to help support the war effort and her soon to be husband. After the war Catherine spent her time as a devoted wife and mother to her four children. Catherine enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, and working as a librarian for Romeo High School in Romeo, Michigan.
Catherine was a permanent resident of Suttons Bay for the last 30 years, spending her winters in Florida. Catherine was an accomplished painter and artist, an avid reader, she loved to fish, enjoyed playing bingo, was a lucky gambler, and was an expert at humming a tune.
Catherine is survived by her four children, Christine (Charles) Ginnard, Robert (Rebecca) Fairfield, Cynthia (Edwin) Reese, and Richard (Leslie) Fairfield; her brothers, Edward (Catherine) Ringler, William (Doris) Ringler; her nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and two grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 12 noon at Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery will be announced in the spring. Fr. Leonard Paul will serve as celebrant.
