Mary
Ann Hacker, 90, of Suttons Bay, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2018
at her Florida home surrounded by her loving children.
Mary
Ann was born April 15, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. She married Donald Edward Hacker and enjoyed
a loving marriage of sixty-seven years. Her
husband, friend, and soulmate, Don preceded her in death on November 27, 2017.
Mary
Ann began visiting Suttons Bay with her family as a child in the early 1930’s. Mary Ann graduated from Mackenzie High School
(Detroit) and Albion College. She
brought her family to vacation in Suttons Bay throughout the years. Mary Ann and Don became permanent residents
of Suttons Bay upon Don’s retirement in the early 1980’s.
Mary
Ann made lifelong friendships with everyone she met through her activities and
daily life. She was an avid reader and
longtime volunteer at the Suttons Bay – Bingham Township Library. Mary Ann’s spirit was fed through church
participation including, First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, The Presbyterian

educating and teaching pre-school special needs children. Mary Ann was an avid Tigers baseball fan, and seldom
missed opening day. A highlight was
seeing the Tigers play and win in the World Series. Her varied interests included worldwide
travel with her husband Don, finding treasures: antiques, bargains, and shells;
swimming in the Bay, gardening, playing bridge, music, parades and the circus.

I am so sorry to read of your loss. Your folks were great volunteers in the community and always smiling neighbors for my folks in their last years at the beach. Best from Lois and Larry
ReplyDeleteDear Mary, Don and Carole,
ReplyDeleteGreg and I were so so sorry to hear about your Mother's passing, especially so soon after your Father's. But they are reunited again now. They were such sweet people and wonderful neighbors. God bless them and all of you.
Greg and Shirley Hodge
We were very sad to learn that Mary Ann passed away, and so soon after losing your dad last fall. Mary Ann was a great friend of my mom's, and so I was also so fortunate to have Don and Mary Ann as friends. My introduction to Mary Ann came 33 years ago when she helped make table decorations for my wedding. They were both such a delight to know. I enjoyed your re-printing of the Talk of the County - Mary Ann said it well - Life was good to her, and she spread it around to everyone she knew. Becky Holton
