Dorothy L. Stanow
Died December 30, 2019
Dorothy was born Aug. 4, 1929 in Detroit the daughter of Alfred and Mary (VanDriessche) Zink. On Oct. 2, 1949 in Detroit she married Luther G. Stanow who preceded her in death on June 23, 2012.
In her youth Dorothy worked as a bank messenger, later she managed a dry cleaning business and worked in the dress department at Crowley’s in the Fraser/Roseville areas. She also was a Sunday school secretary and teacher.
When family and friends asked for second helpings at Dorothy’s dinner table, one would get a heaping spoonful instead of just a little bit; whether you asked for a little or not! Dorothy enjoyed rock collecting from the shores of our Northern Michigan waters and trails.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, David (Karen) Stanow, Diane (Jim) McIntyre, Laurie Pluhar; five grandchildren, Paul Stanow, Dawn (John) Brookes, Lynn (Jake Campeau) Pluhar, Brian and Joshua (Katie) McIntyre; and three great grandchildren, Charlie, Ella and Ava Brookes.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Luther.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020 at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 with the family greeting friends at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay. I tried to post a message yesterday but it didn't work. I just learned that Dorothy died yesterday, when I saw Gilbert. Please accept my condolences for the loss of your mom/grandmother. Dorothy was a kind and lovely woman and I have happy memories of her from my younger years. My prayers are with your family.
