Lois B. Carlson
Died August 31, 2017
NORTHPORT – Lois Barbara Carlson, 80,
of Northport, passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 at Munson Medical Center with
her loving family at her side.
Lois was born Nov. 10, 1936 in
Traverse City the daughter of Zeno and Margaret (Strait) Tharp. On Sept. 14, 1957 at the Northport Covenant
Church she married Donald R. Carlson, who survives.
Lois worked for decades in banking at
first at the Traverse City State Bank, then it became Old Kent Bank and finally
Fifth Third Bank. Don and Lois also ran
their family farm growing cherries and raising cattle. Her children remember her butterscotch pie
with meringue.
She loved her humming birds, with
feeders all around her house. Lois also
loved her dogs, Lukie, Benny and Jack the springers, Gertrude the pug, and Buff
the herder. Don and Lois were members of
the West Bay Covenant Church and attended Northport Covenant Church.
Lois is survived by her husband of
fifty-nine years, Donald; her two sons, Mark (Tammy) Carlson and Bruce (Sherry)
Carlson; three siblings, Ruth Tharp, Elsie Corl, and Zeno Tharp; two grandsons,
Grant Carlson and Andy (fiancee Rebecca Van Pelt) Carlson; a great grandson,
Landen Carlson; and two nieces, Cheryll Atticks and Linda Weiss.
She was preceded in death by her
parents.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8
p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the Northport Covenant Church with the family greeting
friends at 10 a.m. Burial in Leelanau
Township Cemetery will follow the service and friends are invited to a church
luncheon after the graveside services.
Pastor Jerry Lange will officiate.
