Pauline I. Walters, Died Sept. 24, 2016

Pauline I. Walters
Died Sep. 24, 2016

SUTTONS BAY – Pauline Walters, 87, a lifelong resident of Suttons Bay, passed away peacefully Saturday eve, September 24 at Munson Medical Center with her family gathered around her singing a medley of her favorite songs.
The daughter of Andrew & Mary (Novak) Sharnowski, Pauline was born December 19, 1928 at home on the family farm in Bingham Township.  Pauline attended elementary school at the nearby one room field-stone schoolhouse built by her uncle, Peter Sharnowski, located on S. Maple Valley Road and then graduated from Leelanau St. Mary’s.
On February 18, 1947 she married Gerald Walters of Suttons Bay, and they bought a small farm, which they tended together, and raised their family.
Pauline and Gerry happily hosted many gatherings for family and friends, including dinner and euchre parties, corn roasts, and wintertime sleigh riding parties.  All were welcome and enjoyed the warmth of being together and celebrating life with one another.
Pauline was employed at Milliken’s, R.L. Polk, College of American Pathologists (CAP Computer) and as the Bingham Township Clerk; but her most important legacy was as loving wife and Mother to her children.  Pauline & Gerry grew cherries and also made many trips to the Detroit Farmer’s Market with prunes and plums harvested from their farm. Together they traveled and spent many winters enjoying life in Ruskin, Florida with family and friends.  Pauline was a polka-loving dancer, incredibly quick of wit, and always ready for a winning game of euchre or playing a practical joke on those she loved.
Pauline is survived by her husband and children, Gloria (Robert) Rothgarber of Suttons Bay, Shirley (George) Caplinger of Suttons Bay, Linda (Dwaine) Schaub of Cape Coral Florida, Merry Sue (the late Steven) Megill of Suttons Bay, Gerald Nick (Judy) Walters of Traverse City, Paulette (Barry) Andrews of Traverse City, and Ken (Erin) Walters of Comstock Park.  Pauline’s children blessed her with 26 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Stanley & Steve, sisters JoAnn Furst & Theresa Walter, her infant twin sons, Gary & Larry, son-in-laws Tim Fuller & Steven Megill, daughter-in-law Peggy Walters and newborn grandson Dakota Walters.  They are all reunited once again and dancing and enjoying eternal Life!
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place.  Friends are invited to visit with her family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 30 with the Rosary to be Prayed at 7 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.  The mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 at St. Michael’s Church of Suttons Bay; where the family has been parishioners for 69 years.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
A private family burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation directed to St. Michaels Church, PO Box 9, Suttons Bay, MI 49682 and/or Mass intentions.

We are so sorry to learn of the passing of your wife and mom. Pauline always had a smile on her face and certainly seemed to enjoy life to the fullest. We are unable to attend visitation and the services this weekend, but know you are in our thoughts and prayers as you mourn her passing and celebrate her life. May all your memories, and being with family, comfort each of you during this difficult time. Fondly, Allan and Michelle Crocker

Our most sincere condolences to the Walters family on your loss of Pauline. She was a gracious and friendly lady, attractive even as she aged, and had a beautiful smile! We have always felt a connection to her since her dad grew up in the house and farm that we are so blessed to have since 1972, the Sharnowski homestead. It is a treasure, as surely that Pauline was a treasure to her family and to all who knew her. May she now rest in peace with our Lord.
    Sending our prayers for all,
    Judy and Glenn LaCross
