GILLS
PIER – Peter Joseph Korson, 92, of Gills Pier, passed away
Monday, May 1, 2017 at Munson Medical Center.
Peter was born on Aug. 31, 1924 in Suttons Bay, the son
of Wencel and Ludmilla (Kolarik) Korson.
On Aug. 26, 1960 at St. Wenceslaus Church he married Maxine Mae Holman
who preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 2011.
Peter graduated
from high school and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European
Theater. His personal awards include the
Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge among many unit and service
medals and ribbons. He was present at
the surrender of Germany and stayed behind in theater helping the Allied Forces
rebuild Europe.
He returned home
and during the growing and harvesting seasons Peter ran the family farm. During the winters, he worked downstate on
the automotive assembly lines. Peter
spent decades working the farm and the assembly line and rose to the position
of supervisor.
Peter would
always lend a hand to his neighbors with chores and barn raisings. When he was back home Peter loved taking
rides with Maxine in their Model T; a vehicle that remains in the family
today. He enjoyed snowmobiling,
woodworking and backyard picnics with his siblings.
Peter is survived
by his son, Wencil (Rose) Korson; a daughter, Barbara Korson; his siblings,
John Korson, Agnes (Bill) Donner, Sister Lydia, Sister David-Therese, Sister
Peter-Mary, Gerome (Carol) Korson, Christine (Tom) Gibson; his in laws, Mary
Ann, Pat; four grandchildren, Alex, Gabriel, Mona, Sara; two step
grandchildren, Billy (Anna) White, Geromy (Emily) White; and a great
grandchild, Malek.
He was preceded
in death by his wife, his parents, his siblings, Helen, Paul, Jim (Monica),
David; and his sister in law, Ann.
Visitation will
be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 8 at the Martinson Funeral Home with
the Rosary to be prayed at 6 p.m. The
mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9 with the family greeting friends
at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church of Gills Pier. Burial will follow in St. Wenceslaus
Cemetery.

We had the privilege of meeting Pete during the Veterans Baseball Game at Wuerful park last year. This humble, quiet and charming gentleman, was a delight to talk to even for a short while. May he now rest peacefully as he is welcomed home by his loved ones who have waited for him to join them.
