MAPLE CITY - Loretta Mary Galla, 79, of Maple City, passed away on October 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Loretta was born September 5, 1939 on the family farm in Cleveland Township the daughter of Leo Frank Nemeskal and Mary Frances (Shalda) Nemeskal.  On Oct. 31, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Church she married Leon Francis Galla who survives.

Leon and Loretta for decades ran the family strawberry farm.  She loved playing euchre and polka dancing.  Loretta was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan and would admonish her husband if he tried to change the channel.  She also enjoyed soap operas and going to the Cedar Hilltoppers to play cards.   Loretta was a master canner canning pickles, sauerkraut and making polish sausage.

Loretta and Leon got to travel in their later years seeing Alaska, Hawaii, Branson Missouri, Las Vegas, China, Poland, Germany and several cruises.  She held a deep love for her family and adored her grandchildren.

Loretta is survived by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Leon; her three sons, Gary (Trudy) Galla, Gregory (Tricia Kalchik) Galla, Mark (Debra) Galla; her sisters, Merita (Vince) Zywicki, Rita Winowiecki, and Marcella (Ron) Rice; and her grandchildren, Tesha (Andrew) Milliron, Shannon, Tayler, Sean, Chauntel, BriarRose, Michael, Max, Carson, and Kaylee, and great-grandchildren: A’nevaeh, Ava, Iva, and Nolan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael Allen Galla on Oct. 4, 2004 and her brothers Frank Nemeskal and Albert Nemeskal. 

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday October 12 at the Holy Rosary Church of Cedar with the Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.  The funeral mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 13 also at the church with the family greeting friends at 12 p.m.  Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery will follow the service.  Father Donald Libby and Father Anthony Cureton will serve as co-celebrants.
