Randy R. Day
Died September 24, 2018
TRAVERSE
CITY - Randy
Robert Day, 42, of Traverse City, passed away while kayaking on Sept. 24, 2018.
Randy
was born May 4, 1976 at Leelanau Memorial Hospital of Northport the son of
Robert C. Day and Donna K. (Bailey) Day.
Randy
was born with gasoline in his veins with a love for racing and ready with a
helping hand to anyone in need. He was
born into racing, attending races when he was 6 months old, but sleeping
through the race. Randy would see the
large driver’s numbers on the side of the cars and that started his fantastic
mathematical skills.
He
won his first checkered flag when he was 4 years old at a tricycle race at the
Northern Michigan Speedway. Randy
started racing cars at 15 years old until present time. He, his father Robert, his mother Donna and
Uncle Doug supported him at thousands of races and the over 2000 checkered
flags Randy and Robert won.
Randy
spent 8 years in NASCAR All American Racing series, he also raced on local
tracks in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. He
loved meeting people, he loved helping others.
He also had a passion for snowboarding and kayaking.
Randy,
much to the dismay of his crew, would help other drivers with their car
problems, even if they were racing against him.
He had parts in some Up North Zombie movies, most notably Thaw of the
Dead. Randy was active in getting the Indigenous
People Day in Traverse City officially recognized.
Randy
is survived by his parents, Robert C. and Donna K. Day, his siblings, Christine
(Larry) Tueller, Kristen Harthorn; his aunts and uncle, Karen Zimba, Sandy
Turner, Doug Day, Lori Bailey and many loving extended family members.
A
celebration of Randy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 with
the family greeting friends at 11 a.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons
Bay. Friends are encouraged to share
their stories of our dearest Randy.
Memorial donations may be
